Canada Notches Silver In U16 FIBA Americas

Two for two with our 2009 U16 Canadian national teams!

Congrats to all the athletes and coaches who bought in and played an integral role in the success of both our men’s and women’s cadet/te national teams.

All athletes and coaches selected to the U16 national teams were identified from with Canada Basketball’s Centre For Performance.

As Senior Women’s National Team Coach, Allison McNeill, reminded us:

“It takes an entire village to raise a child.”

In the case of these teams, it took an entire nation to position these young men and women for the success that they had.

Big congratulations to head coach, Jacquie Lavallee, and assistant coach, Dawn Keith, for being able to create a cohesive unit within a short 3-day training camp leading into the tournament. The Canadian team went 4-0 heading into the gold medal match, falling to an overpowering US team in the finals.

Like the boys U16 team before them, the girls have qualified for the World Championships next summer.

When it comes to sport, there are very few things that can compare to the pride that comes out of representing your country. I’m proud to had played a contribution. GO CANADA GO!
